Hello Guys,

Of the remaining Bayonets that are left, which one should I get? I have a late issue SG Springfield and SG HRA. Which ones?

Not yet a bayo collector, so any recommendations? Also, any additional information for my personal education would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

I personally would get one uncut and one cut. The uncut would be an Oneida. The cut (modified) would be a Springfield or a PAL. I like the Springfield modified bayonets because they are all dated and most are from WWI.

I too have post war Garands, so I wanted "period correct" bayonets which were the same vintage as my rifles. The ones I ordered were: pb001

These were the issue bayonets when my rifles were made.

The WWII bayonets pb003, pb004 are interesting and more collectible, so I bought some of those as well.

Out of the ones left I think any would be a good choice. For historical significance I think like drwitte said, the Springfield cuts are pretty cool because of the dates. For me personally I've matched an ENS bayo with my post war SA.

I bought 10 inch cut and an uncut. I have a book copyrighted 1957 with a US Marine and a cut 10 inch bayonet. I think the 10 inch bayonets would be correct for the time period AND have character. Many of these were still in the supply chain.

I would get a PAL cut down too.PAL only made 210,000 1905 bayonets.Far fewer than their M1 production. Not all PAL 1905"s got cut. Many lost in WW2,Korea.How many could be left? For a real piece of history, a cut SA.Two,or three wars, and a early year date stamp if your lucky.

I particularly like the SA and RIA cutdowns due to the historical nature of these. They could have been in two World Wars.

RIA and SA may have seen more history.

Praying for my RIA before Christmas.

It will go on my Smith Corona 1903A3 drill CMP rifle, the one in the corner festooned with garland and lights...

(An idea I stole from one of you guys last year.)

mls343 go to the archives on the (GCA) Garand collectors assn. website. They have an article from a GCA Magazine entitled "Bayonets" by Mike Popernack, printable. Loaded with historic info on WWI, WWII and Korean/Vietnam era bayo's. This will help you get an idea to make up your own mind which best suits you. Good luck.

Guys,

This is some excellent information! Thank you soooo much. I will get one of the PB001 (unissued) as well as one of the PB004 - probably the Utica.

Again, thanks for the opinions as well as the reference material.

I'll make sure I post them when I get them!

Thanks again, Guys!

Cheers!
