I bought some nos Rem parts for a project rifle when they arrived I noticed that the bolt looked funny so I cleaned the cosmo off and found that it was marked sa on the bolt root and was an A4 bolt .I did not think anyone made A4 rifles except Remington. Could it be a repair bolt? It will not close all the way in my 03 action ,the root hits the receiver.The are no weld marks and the park /blue is the dark flat black on it .Did someone just modify an A3 bolt ?It looks just like the one for my A4.Sorry I dont know how to post pics here.What would its value be? Thanks Chet

I posed your question to my good friend "Mr. M1903A1" and this is what he said;

"Only Remington made M1903A4 bolts. Most of the Remington 03A4 bolts for sale are modifications of 03A3 bolts that were not modified by the military. Many came off rifles M1903/A3 rifles modified into hunting rifles. While it is possible that an arsenal could have modified a M1903 or M1903A3 bolt to repair a rifle, it's unlikely. Someone likely bent and ground the SA bolt.

Twenty years ago NIW Remington M1903A4 bolts were not difficult to locate, but they are rare today. "

Hope that helps.

He's right, only remington made A4 bolts, SA did however make A3 bolts. Is the handle shaped different than A3's ? On stuff like this photos are a must.

Sounds a lot like my Springfield sniper clone bolt I got.
