My SA M1 2048475 has a barrel marked like this: 3-S-A-10-4 Seems to be a number missing, like a "3" There is no indication, to my untrained eye, that the number has been worn off, erased, covered or anything else. It just looks like is was never put on.

Anybody seen this before?

Is there a number on top of the barrel?

Going by the drawing number, the barrel date is 10-43. I have no idea why the 3 was left off, probably just a mistake by whoever was stamping the numbers

That's where I am in my thinking as well. I appreciate you taking a look at the situation. This particular rifle was picked up at a pawn shop with all matching 10/43 parts except for the butt plate, which is new and the pin for the horse shoe which is missing. It doesn't work too well, short cycles, but after being properly cleaned and lubed and maybe some work on the gas cylinder and piston, I'm expecting a great representation, it not necessarily accurate, of the rifle that won the war. Thanks again!

I agree with aimit. Missing numbers and letters do happen on the various parts. I have seen several barrels with that last number missing.

What is the revision and heat lot of your bolt?
