#2 is a Bill Bentz reproduction USMC sight hood.

I'm interested in thoughts on the #1,#3 and #4. The pictures are posted in the Numrich USMC sight hoods thread but thought the specific question on legit or not also belonged in Is it Real or Repro.

Here is some history. If anybody can help me remember which 03 forum, it will help.

About 3-5 years ago a member put up a image of a large sight cover he purchased from a large company. It was an obvious fake. It had sharp edges and a wrong finish. About 3 or 4 members posted what was wrong and all agreed. About a week later the company was "Out of Stock" with that item.

About 2-3 months later they came out again from the same company. This looked perfect. The edges were in compliance and the finish was different.

Here are some facts:

Many of us learned our lesson and will no longer tell why an item is fake when we identify it. Otherwise the faker will correct his errors.
This item has been scarce for the last 30 years. Not impossible, none super rare, but quite scarce. When a standard sight cover was in the $2.00 area, these were in the $20-$25 area.
They have been hard to find in quantity for close to 30-40 years. Yet today there are many of them around from dealers that make stuff overseas.
Each person can now decide if what is out there for sale is original, or fake.

Bill is spot on about these, they've never been common.40 years ago not many dealers had them,Joe DeChristopher was about the only one that had them in a small quantity and they weren't cheap.I think the sight hood and the USMC front sight and sight slide insert were in the neighborhood of $75 when I bought them back then. You could pick up 03s for that at the time.

To all of the sudden be quantities of these on the market is a little hard to believe from one dealer let alone several.

Sounds as if they are to be considered fakes since they were sold in the marketplace recently?

I'm not asking for the information to be posted online on the specific legitimate USMC sight hood characteristics. I'm just asking if they are in your opinion fake-reproductions USMC sight hoods based on the photographs? I've never found a decent picture of a real USMC sight hood so all I can do is ask about the ones I own.

If I ever make it to a PA gun show I'll throw them in my pocket for you to look at.
