My "guess" is that they both are. We'll have to wait for more knowledgeable ones to chime in.

Neither are WRA, Korean is a safe bet.

Thanks.
Anyone want them both for $20 shipped?

My call is also that neither are WRA. I have seen similar gas cylinders described as either Korean or Italian. Several dead give away featues say they are not WRA.

Just for my "education", please. I'd say top one is a dead giveaway as NOT WRA. What do you see on the bottom one? Please email me if you don't want to publish "the tell" here where "humpers" would see....I have one that I got off another forum that I'm skeptical of.....

I don't think anyone is currently humping gas cyls. Of couse, maybe in the future.
It would guess these are just replacement parts from countrys that at one time, were actively using Garands. As in Korea.

Gunny, the bottom one had me puzzled too. The upper one has a smooth finish on it, while the bottom one has what looks like a park on it. Looks more "military".

Those photos are misleading. The step is present on all WRA gas cylinders, but are not all exactly the same shape. Also, the narrow and wide forging has no relationship whatsoever to a WRA cylinder. The photo below shows two WRA gas cylinders, one with a wide forging and one with a narrow forging. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/2cufms2/misc%20pics/MVC-003S-3.jpg

That confused me too on the forging on the 2 cyls in question.

I have to agree with Aimit. I don't think the distinctions drawn on that well -known picture are 100% accurate. I fix a lot of VFW and Legion rifles and I have seen many "WRA like" cylinders on those rifles. I doubt they came from Korea. Maybe they did, who knows. In any case, there is little consistwency in the wide vs narrow forging on the bottom, on the square vs curved profile or even on the step/no step on the sight base.

I've found the narrow and wide forging to not be reliable.

The machined step and square or round contours are the best indicators.

Also I believe the Koreans only made the wide sight bases, so all narrow base should be WRA.

How about this one? Came on a Danish Winchester I picked up from the North Store a couple months back.

Looks like a real WRA to me. I think the stacking swivel has been changed at some point.
