MajDave,
I elected to respond by private message as this point has somewhat drifted from the original post. The place where I observed the group cleaning sessions was in the 431st Civil Affairs Company. I was a member of the unit from 1964 to 1977. The unit consisted of 60 officer and 60 enlisted. Our commander was an LTC. The CA company was not a typical military company. We did not take all the weapons to annual qualification firing, only about one fourth of them. After qualification firing there would be, typically, 6 or 8 assigned to the cleaning detail. This activity was something I observed on more than one occasion.
Thanks for your 40 years service. I retired after 28 years in the USAR.
