    Property of US Army Ithaca

1911a1 shipped and is currently held for my 10 day "cooling off" period. I did get a quick look while filling out all the paperwork. Ithaca/Ithaca and the dealer asked if it was new or used .

My question: It has the normal US Property stamp above the trigger but in front of the trigger, on the frame in a smaller font is very neatly stamped "Property of the US Army". Is this common? I know - pictures, but I will not have it in my hands for another week - just couldn't wait to ask.

Are you sure it does not say "M1911A1 US Army"?

I guess it will have to wait a week. It was a quick look but I don't see any stamps in that location on any pictures I've seen here.

Another customer got a better look at it than I did. He had his nose about an inch away from it for a very long time. I almost asked him to please not drool on it..

I'll see what turns up in a week and get back.

Some of the Ithacas in the 900,000 range (IIRC) were double stamped - frame and slide. They are more collectible and valuable.

You are correct except they were double stamped with "M1911A1 US Army". Not "Property of US Army."

WW2 1911s were never stamped "PROPERTY OF THE US ARMY" on the frame, they were stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY"

Just got back from the DMV to complete my license renewal and got a call from my FFL that I'm on delay because they ran the check on my expired license. Oh well - what's another months delay. Now I can't wait to see it again. Will get back when the time comes.
