Model 70 Win on auction site

Might any of you have a WAG on why it's at such a high price? I noticed that it's got the cut out for loading by stripper clips and I believe it's birthdate is 1958.
$2,000.00 plus with two more days to go. WOW!!!

Bidding war. Electropenciled bolt and US Property on the receiver may mean that it was a sniper's rifle used in Vietnam. Price is now $2358. Needless to say, I dropped out early and the firearm appears to have issues.

I forget the year, but the last time they had these at auction a few sold at around $7,500. (fully functional) - I remember because I was "practice bidding" and accidently won one at around $2,500. - to that time the most expensive firearm I ever bought. It must have been a big game day or something. I had a small problem and called about it and the CMP guys couldn't believe that I got such a good deal. I'm quite happy with it, but it's boring at 100 yards as it puts all the bullets thru the same hole.

Have him use a Dremel to mark "US Property" and he'll double their value.

I don't get it.

NO PROVENANCE. The CMP gets rifles from everywhere.

I did not know that. I thought their inventory came from the US military.

And it looks Like CMP was correct - I did get a bargain. And hours yet to go.

And if you think the $3400 for it is bad, look at the Remington 700. $5700+.

The subject rifle may have been used as a sniper rifle but was certainly bought in the late 1950's as rifle team equipment.
