-   -   "HEC" Barrel Markings? (http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=240801)

I recently mentioned this "HEC" barrel marking in another thread I started here.
"Late 1944 Remington Rand"

I've found very little info available online about a barrel with these markings.
The info I have found is speculating this was made by Heckler & Koch.

One of the few places I found mention of these markings was a post on a different forum, and oddly enough was said to be installed in another late 1944Remington Rand 1911A1.

https://forums.gunboards.com/showthr...911A1-stamping

I'd really like to figure out who made this barrel and when. I figure that once someone can post substantiated info about this barrel, anyone who researches online about these will find easy answers. Right now, it seems a bit of a mystery.

One thing I did stumble upon is a list of "Gun Make Codes"
It does list HEC as the code for Heckler & Koch of West Germany.

http://www.earmi.it/armi/database/Gu...ke%20Codes.htm

Would Heckler & Koch have stamped HEC on a barrel made as a replacement for the US military?

Here are pics of the markings on mine.

Anyone have any information about these barrels?

This is the barrel I received in my late 1944 Remington Rand 1911A1 from the CMP.
I got it a week ago.

It's my understanding that these pistols have been stored in service usable condition, and inspected once/year since sometime about the early 90's.

It has "M" and "P" marked opposite of the "HEC" stamping
Considering these things, I would imagine this barrel was approved and installed by the US military.

I'm sure other people are going to pop up on here saying they've received a barrel like the one I have.

Well,
HK was founded in 1948, after the War of course and I don't know of any contracts for 1911 barrels. In the various Armorers courses I've taken for HK firearms, "HEC" was never mentioned. Lastly, I'm very skeptical of that list you found.
So I'm going with "No" but I could be wrong.

PS..... Just looking around, the US produced cage code appears to be 3HN73 and the German produced code is D2330. BTW.....

No I understand just trying to find info...……………. my guess is a US contractor since the "M" "P" markings...……………

At this point, I'm not buying that this barrel was made my H & K either. I too read about Heckler & Koch's history.

I'm just putting out there the minimal info I've found so far.

And I'm hoping to find some solid answers about this barrel. Not just for me, but for anyone who ever researches online about one like this.

Yeah..... no harm in asking but for example the HK G3 rifle and parts were marked with the "HK" logo, date and proof. The rifle was first introduced in 1959, which predates, I think HK USA.
But hey...… ask? No harm.

CAGE Code 3HN73 crosses to Heckler & Koch so HK it is

I find these kind of discussions very interesting. First of all, I don't have an RGN. Still waiting. Second, I didn't know squat about a 1911/1911A1, other than it's a small piece of military history I want to own. Third, I've learned so much about these pistols just from reading the threads. I find them very interesting. Albeit, I do understand the fact that their are a lot of expert opinions in these threads. I pick and choose what to get out of everyone's responses. But, with everyone's inputs, it's awesome to gather all the facts about this pistol.

OP, sorry to interrupt. Carry on.....

Thanks for the Contact info.
I sent them an email with pictures asking them to research whether or not H&K made these barrels.

We'll see what they say.

One thing seems clear; barrels with these markings must be rather scarce. The few places I see them mentioned in online searches, no one has provided a solid answer of who produced them and when.
