Front Sight Flew Off

First time out and the front sight came off sometime after ~25 rounds. I was able to have a very nice pattern until the sight went missing! :) I have a 1911 Colt/Colt made in 1918, but a Type 3 sight was installed. I read that a S/N correct Type 1 sight was prone to work loose and was narrow for low-light conditions. I welcome your expertise with the following. (1) Replace with a Type 1 or 3 front sight? (2) Where would I purchase a replacement sight? Many thanks!

Seems like a lot of hassle to send the pistol back and forth just for a sight. I would assume any competent gunsmith could install the sight, provided to provide one that meets your needs.

I have a couple of what I believe to be GI NOS front sights. Came in a big lot of GI parts I bought, took what I needed and sold the rest here. Search back in my posts and the ad should still be there. I was asking $5 each and think I have two left. Postage is extra. PM me if you want one, but I’m out of town till next week. They need to be peened in. These should be 70’s-80’s replacement type

I would contact CMP. The correct sight for a 1918 year model is going to be hard to find. Most commercial gunsmiths are not going to have those in stock or even know what the correct sight should be.

I recommend taking Jeremy up on his offer.

CMP probably has some genuine USGI spare parts so you will know it is correct.

Just the slide could be sent back.
