Site Rules Please..

A question on the website rules. If an OP mentions he has a rifle up on an online auction website but does not post a link, is it against the rules? I could point out a half dozen examples in the last months where links to GB and others were posted. Not by the seller but later posters...Just wanting to read the rules properly.
Thanks Gary

certainly a grey area ..... IMO.... if you tell them where, your linking them aren't you?

Don't know..That's why I'm asking Mr. O for clarification..:)

I will defer to Ghost in the Machine - who does not normally work on weekends. Too many things going on in CMP for me to try and manage everything myself.

Understood my Friend..You did a great job on the AR TV show..:)

Seems standard protocol for "most" gun forums to prohibit active linking. But it seems pretty standard to go anywhere on this forum and see someone posting "Hey everyone, check out this "X" I just found on gb!"

I think there are plenty of reasons not to allow active links, and was a little shocked to see it taking place here.

I've seen ghost work weekends, even late evenings too. He's even helped me with forum issues on a weekend. FYI ghost actually posted yesterday at noon...

im not sure why the link issue is banned tho? i dont get it

I'd like a little clarification on this myself. I know posting direct links to auctions is frowned upon, but if a guy knows some of the members may be hunting for a rifle like the IHC in the most recent example, is it wrong for him to let fellow collectors here know its on GB without posting the link to it? the link ended up being posted later by another member, so i'd like to know if im supposed to delete those.

I really don't see it being all that unclear. The spirit of the rule (at least as I have gathered from several other forums) is that one should not be calling attention to off-site sales. As others have mentioned, this is not something new to forums, much less exclusive to this one. Even moreso if the forum in question has a classified area.

I think the "link" part of the rule is simply being taken much too literal.

Is there even a "link" rule? You could cruise through one area of this site and find about 5 different threads within a few pages that are initiated with a link.

I don't see a difference between a link and a "go to this site, look up this auction number" etc. They are both the same.
