Purchase Documents

Are original eligibility documents required to be presented when purchasing a rifle or will a document photo on my cell phone be sufficient? Thanks.

Original documents are required when purchasing a firearm.
CMP, Walmart, Academy......
Of course it would depend on the document. Proof of club affiliation, proof of marksmanship; depending on the source those may be copies.
Citizenship, ID, nope.

If you have purchased from CMP before some of those documents will be good.....like proof of marksmanship.
If you haven't purchased recently you will need an update proof on club membership and if over three years a new notary. The notary can be done in the store and if you need a club membership a GCA membership can be done in the store also.

According to the CMP sales' FAQ page if you mail your documentation they do not want original copies. I scanned and emailed all my documentation to them without an issue.

I have. Aamof I've both mail ordered and purchased at south store on multiple occasions and other than showing them my drivers license at south store last Nov 15 I've never had to produce an original document in person.

Once in the system you are correct, ID and $ and you are on your way.

Exactly. We all know CMP has to have copies of these documents on file prior a rifle purchase and we know it's ok to email scanned eligibility documents or mail photocopies of the same to CMP. If the Op were to have photographs of his documents on his phone and if he were to email those photos from his phone to CMP in my opinion that shouldn't be any different than emailing a scanned document. That said just so there are no foul-ups I suggest the Op call or email CMP C.S. just to be sure.
