7.62x51mm NATO or 308 Winchester? What's the Difference?
This subject has been around the block for years. This is the most comphehensive description I have seen that answers the question above.
Summary : The 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge is slightly smaller than it's commercial 308 counterpart -and- The 7.62x51mm NATO chamber is slightly larger than it's commercial 308 counterpart. So you have a 7.62x51mm NATO with a sloppy chamber that's hard to jam. Quite desirable in combat.
