Surplus UK 30-06?

Just saw this today and canít find any information on it. Surplus UK Sportwaffen 30-06? Anyone ever heard of this stuff? Itís a better price than most other 30-06, but worth it??

Headstamp would make positive identification more certain. Just "UK" doesn't mean much and the disclaimer is a bit evasive.

Too many unknowns including ammo condition. What would shipping be on 1K rounds?
Not sure this is a good deal.
Wait for this to be back in stock...a better option.

Or this for $280/400 rounds shipped. Have found this to be decent ammo....

Depending on when it was made , Made In United Kingdom could mean it was made in India.

Never use ammo from any country where ya can't drink the water.

India was part of the British Commonwealth, not at all the same thing as “The United Kingdom”. Bet the Ammo is Kynoch mfg. There has been some of that kicking around lately.

You’re focused on the “UK” in the description. Look up ” Sportwaffen”. It is German surplus.

I can’t find any information on it and nobody has any pictures of the headstamp or original boxes.

Good chance the ammo has corrosive primers.

Gunsling3r1988 12-27-2019 04:29 PM

I got some of this ammo from the Lucky Gunner website and it has a "K57" headstamp.

Did you shoot it? How did it group and did you notice any rust after?

Gunsling3r1988 03-14-2020 03:40 PM

I shot a box of it. I didn't shoot it at paper but I was shooting golf balls with it at 50 yards and it was fine for that. I shot it around New Year's and was checking my gun for rust every day for about 2 weeks and never had any, I pulled the rifle out last weekend and checked again and still nothing so what I have is not corrosive.

Bubba04 03-14-2020 10:13 PM

Awesome thank you, sounds like it is good stuff.

ARMOR1SGRET 03-15-2020 06:15 PM

If it is anything like the German.308 with the same packaging. It’s got to be good.

But it is British and 30-06 ammo so......

RDS 03-15-2020 11:15 PM

American Rifleman magazine article April 1969 page 35 states Kynoch (K) ammo loaded with brass primers is generally noncorrosive and nonmercuric. Kynoch ammo loaded with copper primers is corrosive and in all probability mercuric.

Is it safe to shoot this ammo in an M1 Garand or 1903A3?

Yes...why wouldn't it??

medalguy 03-19-2020 08:46 PM

"Stored in less than ideal conditions" tells me all I need to know.

If it is kynoch, reports are it is loaded hot and has occasional case splits. Likely better for bolt guns and not garands.

I have a bunch of it on cloth belts from when CMP sold it cheap but havenít shot any of it, so no first had knowledge.

I bought 200 rds of this through my LGS today (insanely cheap). Older versions of this (K53 stamped) had issues (allegedly) with being overpowered and splitting cases.

Have you had any of these issues?

Did you run this (and how many) through your Garand (wasn't 100% clear base don other responses to the thread).

Many thanks is advance!
