m1907 Sling Help

Hey guys,

I won an auction on ebay for a lot of old slings, most of them GI m1907s. When I received them I found that many of them were in rough condition both in terms of leather and metal. I have been recommended Pecard's Antique Leather Dressing to restore the leather, but am looking for guidance on restoring the metal.

All of the hardware on the slings is brass. On several of the slings, green rust has built up under the frogs to the point where several rivet heads have broken off. Is there anyone that can replace m1907 brass rivets?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

That "green rust" is called verdigris.

You might check with someone like Richard Turner of Turner Slings about some replacement rivets.

Thank you very much. I have sent Turner an email. Hopefully he'll be able to help me out!

The rivets that they use to attach brake linings to brake shoes also work.

Richard Turner will do the restoration for me. We will work on a budget after the holidays. Thanks a lot for pointing me to him guys!

Merry Christmas!
