South African 308 Ammo

I have came across some South African 308 Ammo in sealed 1260 round tin cases. What would it sell for? Thank You

At least $.50/rd. Probably closer to $.65/$.70
My GUESTIMATE since it is good ammunition with my FALs.

Excellent ammo. If you can get it for less than $.65/rd., your doing very well. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Concur w/ Bobj50 and bruce, excellent ammo, Its berdan primed cases and copper jacketed bullets (non magnetic). I shot it in 3 gun matches when we still had the .30 cal one hit vs 2 for 5.56 scoring. It dried up when the UN convinced South Africa to stop selling surplus military ammo on the commercial (read US) market.

Recently there has been a fair bit of Portuguese and to a lesser extent South African 7.62 NATO surplus available at the local shows. Asking prices are .50-70 a round. The sellers that are actually moving product seem to be selling at the .37 1/2-.50 a round price point in battle packs.

There is a LOT of quality 7.62x51 available at the moment for .40 to .50 per round (Malaysian, German etc). I would imagine somewhere in that range is a more realistic price at the moment. If the availability dries up in the future then all bets are off.

German with the milled heads is some real good ammo. Malaysian is good too. If you find what your rifle likes stack it.

I had some Malay battle packs that apparently were packed and sealed during the monsoon season. Some case discoloration for moisture inside the sealed plastic pack. However, there were no failures to fire and decent accuracy in my M1A

I haven't bought much in the way of battlepacks for just that kind of issue.
If countries want to off-load their surplus, usually the first to go (at the lowest price) is anything that is suspect, or might have been improperly stored. You can't see the rounds in a battlepack.

I bought some SA 7.62 from a member here, it shot OK, about the same as the Malaysian.
The German "sanitized case" stuff shot much better in my AR10.

Picked up 1000 rnds of Venezuelan 91 Cavim 7.62mm at an auction for $.15 each last week. Looks great. Had some years ago, but can't recall much except it was Boxer primed. Well....I tried it today at a local GSVM match using my M1A supermatch. The sighters made a "group" of 12-14 inches at 200 yds. The M1A went back in the case and I shot my 1917 without any sighters in that relay. It is hard to believe that any mil ammo outside of the Iron Curtain (remember that??) could be that bad, but it wasn't me or the rifle. I will try the Cavim in some other rifles, but am not optimistic. Anyone having experience with this ammo, please comment. BTW.. some years ago I was told by an experienced service rifle competitor that the South African 7.62 was good stuff. Of course, today I was told it wasn't. FWIW..... Good Shooting. ...
