Repatriated D-Day Gun Stock

Back on the old forum I had posted a story about an Underwood stock that I purchased and had shipped back to the USA from Northern France. There is finally an update to report.

It is a High Wood stock, with "I" cut for the IU oiler; Type "A" barrel band;'U' type II recoil plate w/long thread screw; marked "RMC" in sling well; Underwood Buttplate. After letting it sit around for a few weeks, I finally unrolled the sling and found a soldier's name - L.F.Jensen and serial number.

I spent quite a bit of time searching the net, looking at obituaries, tried to get military records, searched through cemetary records, etc. I joined and posted a message.

On Christmas Day, Gary Jensen's children gave him a membership to The first thing he sees is my message looking for his father. An exchange of emails and phone calls confirms the relationship. Like most of the WWII vets, L.F. Jensen did not talk too much about his service, but Gary did confirm that his father did participate in the D-Day landing. We're working on getting this stock back into Gary's family.

Hearing from Gary was the best Christmas present of the year...
