CMP rifle stores to open June 4th by appointment only

The Civilian Marksmanship Programís North and South rifle stores will open June 4 by limited-visitation appointments. On Tuesday, May 26th, rifle buyers can begin scheduling appointments to shop at either the Ohio and or the Alabama store. In compliance with government COVID-19 restrictions, the CMP will be controlling the number of customers in each store.

Has anyone got through to make an appointment yet? All I am getting is the busy signal.

BSAGuy 05-26-2020 07:32 AM

The gunsmith will see you now!

AWOhio 05-26-2020 07:47 AM

Appointment? I was hoping for free concert tickets.

Hoosier1223 05-26-2020 07:51 AM

I was getting the busy signal for twenty-eight minutes until I got through. Just keep at it.

Jspinns 05-26-2020 08:05 AM

I just got through! Appointment time is June 4th at 1:30pm.

Does anyone know how many people there will be in store at a time?

TSimonetti 05-26-2020 08:18 AM

I got June 4th at 11:30am

Started non-stop calling between 7:58am and 8:40am on my cell phone finally got thru. The lady on the line did not seem to think there were any store limits aside from the 8 Garands per year, but maybe that will change?

She also said she is (for now) limiting customers to 6 per 30 minute block. So that means 36 customers will be able to shop before I get there. I'm beginning to wonder whether I should have made my appointment for first thing Friday or Saturday instead. I hope the store does at least a couple of re-stocks.

CMP has about a week to truck more Garands north, but with South Store open on the 4th, and Talledega Store open now, and with mail orders backlogged, I'm not sure what kind of stock we will be seeing after the first few days.

Hopefully this appointment system will go away in a couple of months, but at least it will be interesting for now.

Well, after a zillion attempts, I finally go thru about 15 minutes ago. Got an apt. for 2:30 on the 4th...........I will hear that busy signal all day, now.

Flypa38 05-26-2020 08:51 AM

I just want a 1903....wonder if that's a possibility, or if I'm wasting someone else's appointment time!

Hoosier1223 05-26-2020 08:54 AM

I snagged a 10:30 appointment on the Fourth. I hope there aren't 24 Garand hoarders in front of me.

Forget 24. You probably need to hope there aren't 2-3 Garand hoarders in front of you.

I'm a bit surprised there doesn't seem to be store limits at this point, at least according to the appointment person. Hopefully they will announce them sometime before opening..

Not a quitter

Finally after788 attempts got through to get my appointment. Friday the 5th at 1030. Hope a few things are left. Reading Thursday's report is going to be, let's say, interesting.

andyman 05-26-2020 10:46 AM

I was able to get an appointment on the 12th. We will see. Hoping for a 1917 as I really don't want another M1 unless I can get an HRA. Should be fun though-will definitely be glued to the store reports for next week and Thursday the 11th.

AWOhio 05-26-2020 10:53 AM

Thursday the 4th and Friday the 5th are all booked. I got an afternoon appointment on Saturday.

PH68 05-26-2020 10:56 AM

captaincalc 05-26-2020 02:45 PM

The appointments showing up on eBay yet?

Chas100 05-27-2020 06:37 AM

I was able to get a 9:30 appointment on Friday 6/5. Using a vacation day. They had 1 opening for Thursday 6/4 at 2:30 but I figured that I would be better off going earlier on Friday.

Got a slot by calling and C.M.P. crew and a very nice lady made it a smooth easy appointment. Thankyou and I like the idea.Well done C.M.P. God Bless

TLB 05-27-2020 07:31 AM

I actually have off opening week, but I gave up after 80+ dials. Amateur rating compared to a lot of folks. It would be cool to visit the new facility but there is nothing I "need".

Gunner945 06-03-2020 08:21 AM

Who will be there tomorrow am?

Hoosier1223 06-03-2020 08:52 AM

I have a 10:30 slot tomorrow. Hoping that a WWII serialed M1 will still be there.

Don't forget to have your paperwork with you.

Hoosier1223 06-03-2020 09:31 AM

Hey, I wouldn't mind taking a road trip to Alabama to visit the South Store, but I think I'll try the North Store first! 😊

In all seriousness, I'm just looking for an M1 with a WWII serial, a decent barrel, and color matching metal. I'm not necessarily looking for a shooting match winner or high resale value.

In terms of paperwork, I have the order sheets filled out, my passport, GCA card, and permit to carry. I think I'm good to go! 👍

andyman 06-04-2020 10:14 AM

Not sure who here is on Facebook, but they posted pictures and videos of the store opening this morning on the North Store Facebook page. Pretty cool! I sure hope they have 1917s and/or some low number springfields when I get there next week.
