Unusual 1903
This 1903 in a scant stock has a very late '39 receiver and a highly unusual '41 marked barrel. I have had some people call it "likely an expedient assembly for the war effort. Springfield had ceased barrel production in 1939, but started again in 1941 with production of replacement barrels." I have also had another call into question the weird font and stamps on the barrel. I am looking for some input into the legitimacy of this. (The finish on the stamped part of the barrel sure looks legit, but font on barrel is odd.)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

You may want to send John Beard a PM and see what he thinks.

I'm not seeing anything wrong. Anything that could shoot was highly in demand in 1941. Garand production was still not up to demand and most went to the Army. 1903s were still being rebuilt and used for training , by some units of the USMC , to the Navy and being provided to Allies. They were also still being built by Remington.

The stamping on my 1903 Remington with a S A 6 -42 barrel looks the same as yours except the S A on yours appears to be deeper struck.
