A little overdue Wilmington, NC
Should have done this earlier, I found this site on a recommendation from another one and have already gotten some great advice and made a couple of sales. I'll put down a little about me if anyone's wondering.

My grandfather ran a gunsmith's shop as a sideline from the 60's to the 80's. He's passed and I'm in his old house and thus have the shop as well. All the obviously working firearms passed to other relatives but I have a wealth of parts, parts guns, etc., plus the 1903 that he was building as a sporter for me.

I've put off for to long dealing with the shop, mostly from not knowing where to start. I'm a bit of a hunter and would like to be more 'into guns' than I have been mostly due to budget restraints.

I'm looking to rebuild some of the firearms that were parts guns and sell off/trade for some more.

A lot of the parts that I know what are came from CMP guns.

Welcome to the forums! There sure are a lot of experienced and helpful members here.
Do you have any hours that you sell parts out of the old shop?

I'm slowly making my way through it and figuring out what I have. I'll put it up on here little by little. If you're going to be down this way on a weekend shoot me a pm and we can probably arrange a visit.

Most of what I realize I have are parts that were taken off 1903's when he was sporterizing them. A blasphamy now to some, but back then they were a dime a dozen and from all I can tell he did really nice work. Unfortunately I only have the one in progress now.

So did I. Where exactly was your Grand Father's shop? It would not have happened to be up near Castle Hayne would it? A little (I think blue) building up near the road in front of his house?

I/it is in Ogden. I don't consider it near CH but I guess it could be considered that way to someone on the south end of the county. On second reading the siting sounds wrong too. Must be thinking of another shop. His last name was Burris.

You are right. It was a different shop. It definitly was not in Ogden. If you ever get interested in shooting some CMP matches give me a ring. I run a monthly match up in Greenville at the Pitt County Wildlife Club.

Welcome to the CMP Forums. Quite a story about your grandfather. Good luck as you enter more into the world of firearms. Hopefully you'll continue to learn and perhaps put some of your grandfather's tools and parts to good use.
