03A3 Rebuild

Picked up a decent shooter smith corona 03a3 today , Has the ria /fk rebuild stamp. Odd thing is that it's all Remington parts with the rec being s/c . What i would really like to know is if anyone has ever seen this kind of repair and what might have caused it .

That almost looks like a threaded hole was welded up, restamped, then parked.

here is a pic of the inside ,If it was a tapped they used a very large one

Most likely it had been drilled for a scope mount and someone filled the hole by welding. Could be JBWeld if it's been Duracoated.

I hope you got it cheap..... Not sure what you have but I'm curious what the experts have to say.

You have posted 2 pictures of the receiver. I wouldn't advise anyone to shoot anything with that.
That is the biggest screw hole in the receiver I have seen.
Since it's Duracoated I wonder if anything else is hidden?

Bubba gunsmith has been busy plugging a scope mount screw hole. There's no telling what he used and how he did it. But one thing is reasonably certain. The receiver strength has been substantially weakened.

I'm not into this to bad money wise ,Might wait and see if a stripped rec pops up for sale .

Why not perform a thorough inspection of this one?
I have only seen two photos. Nothing disqualifying yet but plenty of questions.
