The rare Calvary Lower Band

LEAD POISON 12-19-2010 09:57 PM

Hmmmm. First one I've ever seen.

Cavalry.....Calvary is the hill where Christ was crucified...

I have never seen one either. Kind of weird too since the sling loop was on the stock ferrule and not the lower band.

Wasn't the last U.S. Cavalry unit disbanded in the mid-1930s, before the M1 Garand came along?

Besides, wouldn't there be a corresponding side-mounted sling loop or slot in the butt stock? ;)

kinda looks like a high school shop project...................

I've never seen such a thing. I'm thinking that if by chance some specialty item was designated for the cavalry it would have been very early into M1 production (although none of the first run of M1 rifles was specifically designated for cavalry use) so the lower band should be of the grooved type. By the time the non grooved lower bands arrived the cavalry was history.

Thats exactly what I was going to on this one.

Typical Greek "Calvary" band conversion.

Personally, I'd bet that the M1 would sling a lot better on it's side in the Greek Calvary configuration.

Sorry had a brain fart on my spelling Buckeye! lol There was an article about these sling modifications being done. I think in GCA or atleast there was a thread on it about them. CMP was taking them off at one point. Am member here got the other half on his HRA stock with a sling mount screwed into the side of buttstock.
