I prefer a sling which is fully adjustable for several reasons. First, the shooting position you take might require a different tightness than your previous position. Second, the type and amount of clothing you have on will require more or less sling. Third, if you use the sling to carry your rifle (or shotgun) it might need to clear a pack or other gear. And when stowing the weapon in a rack, you would want to tighten it up so as not to snag on other stuff.

If you use your rifle to instruct someone else, then they need to be able to adjust the sling to fit their size.

Of course, if you are going to use your rifle for doing the manual of arms, then you will want to make that sling nice and tight, but with some "rattle" for effect. Hoorah!
