      Hi,

I didn't think NJ allowed any body other than NJ people to possess a firearm in NJ?? Can NY or other non-residents bring firearms into NJ for matches?

      Thanks,
      Steve

              Steve,
There should be a Garand Match this Spring at the Wallkill Rod and Gun Club in Wallkill, NY. Also I e-mailed John Donald of the CJRPC in Jackson NJ ,and he stated you can bring your rifle into New Jersy for a rifle match with out a problem. Just follow the tranport regulations , rifle in a case and in the trunk or out of sight and the ammo locked away from the rifle. Also, you cannot fire 30.06 at Camp Smith. Maybe I'll see you at WallKill. Eddie

I shoot at CS with the Rockland HP League... If you attend CS with a Garand, it must be .308. No .30-06 allowed at Camp Smith.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question

But why wouldn't CS allow 30-06?

Actually, the post you're responding to is old already. Camp Smith doesn't allow anything other than 223 now. Camp Smith is stating that the Defense Department has designated other facilities to be used for training with 30 cal weapons, not Camp Smith for some reason. Other bases have been given the same directives from what I have heard.

Last September for the World Police/Fire Games they made an exception at Camp Smith because they didn't get the information out soon enough so they grandfathered the Games match to allow for 308 to be fired there. Nothing over a 223 since.
Not sure what the Match rifle guys with all of their 6BR's are going to do.
Last week, Camp Smith finally approved some Highpower dates for 2012. There will be a HP match on July 8. There are also HP Matches on 8/26 and 10/28. September hasn't been approved as of yet.

Ironic - now that safe act makes buying a new ar illegal for new shooters making the garand the only option for a new service rifle shooter in ny or for those that don't wish to registers current ar's in the state, one of the key high power venues then makes it impossible for many shooters to compete! Perhaps a hidden agenda to close camp smith to civilian shooters?
