Anyone have any insight as to what the MB on the slide and frame signify? Ithaca frame and slide, OB-84 electropencil near the trigger.

Hi Bill.
That MB stamp has been observed before but as far as I know there has not been any consensus on its meaning. Still apparently a mystery. |

What does the OB stand for? Overhaul Barstow? Maybe the “B” in “M-B” is for the same?

According to "shooter5" on 1911.COM...
"MB" is a MPI inspection stamp!!! SEE: https://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=976754 Another "MB" discussion on GUNBOARDS (with "shooter5" still insisting he knows what he knows)... SEE: https://forums.gunboards.com/showthr...s-LEAD-arsenal ![]()

Ok......I guess I'm curious.
If "MB" is for Magnetic Particle inspection, then why isn't it "MP?" That is how they are marked on USGI M16 barrels and bolts. So they spelled it correctly on the rifles but not on pistols????? I can see it's some sort of inspection mark but not that. BTW..... both those links end up having the same source (Shooter5) giving his thoughts. I understand his point but, again, his thoughts were this (the MB marking) may have been done in the 70-80's. The M16's in the 60's were marked "MP" so if it's the same..... why would it change for the 1911? Again.... just my WAG but I don't think it's Magnetic Particle inspection.

LOL, not saying you're wrong! Just saying I'd like to see more evidence before I'll buy it 100%. It could well be a testing mark.
