I have a Win 52C that was a CMP return, and that one does not have a US Gov't marking. But the stock is a high gloss finish, so maybe it wasn't a Gov't issued piece. All my 52D's are oil finished, and US marked however. Much more beat up too.

The 52C Models that my college ROTC team used from 1956 thru 1959 were electric pencil marked "U S Property". Our model 52C's were not used as trainers, unless you consider shooting in individual and team competition with other schools as "training". We used M2 Springfield rifles and Remington 513T rifles as trainers. By training I mean used to teach the fundamentals of rifle shooting.

The only roll stamped ones I've seen were produced under the USMC contract. The rest are electro-pencilled if they were marked (some have been found unmarked). Stocks were originally oil finished and have a sling swivel inletted into the butt stock.

T.D.Batha indicates that the 52Cs and 52Ds were generally marked with the electro pencil, There's always exceptions however.

My CMP 52C has a glossy stock with an "AF PG" stamped on the barrel. This I believe stands for Air Force Premium Grade. There is no marking on the receiver indicating government property.
