    White Feather 308 Ammo Corroded

Yesterday I opened a box of my White Feather 308 ammo that has been in an ammo can since I bought it new at Vendors Row at the National Matches. I was surprised to find that 16 rounds were horribly corroded. I pulled a bullet, and the gunpowder smelled acidic and seemed wet. I tried to get it out with a wire, but I doubt if one gram came out. The rest was stuck inside. There is some kind of chemical reaction taking place. The inside of that box had TMC96 WF175-003. I have another box marked TMC96 WF175-001. That box looks good. I'm going to dispose of the rounds. Has anyone checked their ammo lately? Has anyone had a problem with this ammo becoming corroded? I'm really disappointed, however the box is still in great shape for display.

Well, you can sell the cardboard box for a small profit and recoup the losses.

There have been several recalls of gunpowders for “rapid deterioration” over the last decade or so. One of these may be what the loader used, that or OLD surplus powder that was timing out, or poorly stored.

White Feather?? Whatever, scrap all that ammo. The bullets have corroded and "welded" to the case necks. I have used a lot of various powder(s) over the years and rarely encountered any with the wet, acidic form of deterioration. One 8# plastic jug of Canadian CMR 100 exposed to heat (from a hot water heating panel) would exude yellow nitric acid fumes that would snap your head back. I used it to start charcoal brickets although it really didn't burn very well. Good Shooting. ...

There may be some collector value to the box and ammo given the purported link to Carlos Hathcock.

Wasn't this produced by Talon? Wasn't there some issues with other Talon ammo?
