Default Athletes with physical impairment, temporary or permanent

I am the match director for an upcoming CMP Cup air rifle match. The rule 5.1.4 Athletes with Physical Impairments (temporary or permanent) is a bit confusing to me. An athlete has Osgood-Schlatter disease (knees swell) and can't get into position with either knee. According to the rule, they shoot the next harder position, standing. My question is, do I need medical documentation or do I just go with what the coach/athlete says?
