    Palo Alto R&P Club 9/18/2022 EIC Rifle Match

    Sunday, September 18, 202 will be our Excellence in Competition Rifle Match at the Palo Alto Rifle & Pistol Club. Non-distinguished shooters will be eligible for Excellence in Competition Points towards earning the coveted and envied Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge.

    Gold Distinguished Badges are the highest individual awards authorized by the U.S. Government for excellence in marksmanship competitions. Distinguished Badges are awarded by the CMP and the respective military commands in accordance with 36 USC §40722 [3]. The CMP only issues Distinguished Badges to competitors who earn them according to CMP Competition Rules. The name of the recipient, the year the badge was earned, and the badge serial number are engraved on each badge. The first Distinguished Badges were awarded by the U.S. Army in 1884.

    This will be a fifty-shot National Match Course fired at 200, 300, and 600 yd. with the US service rifle. No sighting shots will be allowed. All shooting will be on our new Shot Marker electronic scoring system. Come out and shoot with us for pride, prestige, and glory.

    ELIGIBILITY: This match is open to any US citizen, 12 years of age or older.

    FEES: CMP Excellence in Competition (EIC) “Leg” Match: $20.00, $15 for junior shooters.
    Make checks payable to “Dwayne H Vidrine”.

    ENTRIES: Match entry may be accomplished by using an SR-1 card, accompanied by check or money order for the full amount of the match fee. Advance entries will be given preference. Non-distinguished shooters will be given entry preference over distinguished shooters.

    Entry is limited to 60 competitors. Registrations the day of competition are welcome. Registration will open at 7AM and close at 8AM. Pre-registered competitors who cancel before 7:00 PM, September 11th will receive a full refund. Cancellations made the day of the event or “no shows” will not receive a refund. There will be no rain-delay date for this match. Pre-registration fees will be returned in the event of match cancellation.

    DIRECTIONS TO ► From Baton Rouge take I-10 to the Sorrento/Donaldsonville (Sunshine Bridge) exit #182 turn right on Hwy 22 and go towards Donaldsonville.
    THE RANGE: ► Turn left onto Hwy 70. (At the caution light.)
    ► Go across the Sunshine Bridge and into the city of Donaldsonville. Bear right at the road fork between the bridge and Donaldsonville.
    ► Proceed to the 5th traffic light in Donaldsonville and turn left onto Hwy 1.
    ► Go approximately 3½ miles to LA Hwy 943. Turn right at the black wooden rail fence.
    ► Go approximately 3½ miles. The highway will make a very sharp right turn. Slow down for that turn.
    ► The range will be on your left approx. 150 yards after that sharp right turn.

    SQUADDING: Squadding will be issued starting at 8:00AM. Competitors who fail to be at their assigned firing point when the relay is called to the line may lose their privilege to compete in that event.

    RULES: Current Civilian Marksmanship Program service rifle rules will apply.

    CHAMBER An Empty Chamber Indicator (ECI) is required to be inserted unless the rifle is in a case
    FLAGS: or being used by a competitor on the firing line during the official preparation/firing period. After firing the final shot of an individual match the ECI must be re-inserted and the magazine removed BEFORE the competitor departs the firing position.

    AMMUNITION: Caliber 30-06, 5.56 mm, or 7.62 mm. 75 grain minimum bullet weight is required for .223/5.56mm at 600 yards. Tracers, incendiaries and dedicated armor piercing ammunition are not permitted. Ammunition must be safe. Any ammunition that repeatedly blows primers or suffers case head separations will be ruled unsafe and the competitor/ammunition will be removed from the firing line. Any competitor who cannot achieve or maintain visible hits on the target after firing three missed rounds will be removed from the firing line. The Match Director can remove any competitor from the firing line if he rules the rifle, ammunition or the competitor is unsafe.

    TARGETS: SR at 200 yards, SR-3 at 300 yards and the MR-1 will be used at 600 yards.

    SIGHTING Sighting shots are not allowed.
    SHOTS:

    SCORING & Competitors will be required to perform scoring and pit operation duties. The current
    PIT OPS: NRA scoring system will be used. The preferred pit rotation will be a 4-relay rotation.

    Course of Fire: 50-Shot National Match Course (NRA Rule 7.14), no sighting shots.
    Arms: Service Rifle, CMP Rule 4.1.1 M16/AR15-Type, 4.1.3 M14/M1A-Type, and 4.1.4 M1-Type.
    Amunition: Provided by the competitor. Service, commercial, or hand loaded caliber 30-06, 223 Rem/5.56 mm, or 308 Win./7.62 mm ammunition consistent with current CMP regulations is authorized.
    Rules: In accordance with CMP Highpower Rifle Competition Rules, Latest edition.
    Awards: Provided by the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

    A Civilian Marksmanship Program Service Rifle Tournament
    Match Results

    Twelve rifle men and women completed this match with clear and sunny weather. Some very good scores were fired. The match winner was Distinguished Rifleman Chance Cavin with a strong high master score of 489-16X. Chance a gold pin and will receive a gold first-place medal from the CMP. Second place, a silver pin, and a silver second place medal from the CMP to Distinguished Rifleman Mike Burke with a score of 471-11X. Third place went to Distinguished Rifleman Dwayne Vidrine with a score of 467-6X. Dwayne will receive a third-place bronze medal from the CMP. The bronze award of six Excellence in Competition Points will go to Non- Distinguished Rifleman Bobby Simpson with a score of 466-6X. First Leather and a Berger reloading manual went to Karl Schroeder with a score of 463-4X. A special thank you goes to Lee Shall for calling the range commands and Tony Geeck for electronic target technical support.

    We will have another Excellence in Competition Rifle Match next month on Sunday, October 16 the day after our regular monthly third-Saturday 80-shot regional match course on October 15.
