Greetings and welcome to the forum!
Speaking of Springfield, I hail from a town by the same name in eastern Maine, although I've lived in the central part of the state for nearly 30 years.
You mentioned living in the mid coast area but didn't say where. If you ever are in need of work to your Garand (or M14 type), I'd highly recommend Gus Norcross in Wiscassett. He's an ex-Army armorer with lots of experience shooting high power & just a great guy. He can be contacted at www.angusarms.com.
Good luck with your Springfield when it arrives and be forewarned, they're just like peanuts - once you've had one, its hard to stop!

And after you get your rifle you can come to a high power match at Capital City Rifle and Pistol Club next year. Located in Augusta. They do about 6 matches a year. Plus a couple of garand matches. We always love to see new faces. Bring your dad along I bet someone would have a carbine he could shoot. Enjoy the M1, next will be the 1917 then the 03, then 03A3.

Ping: Springfield, know it well...have a camp in Lee, and learned to ski on Mt Jefferson. Very nice area, I'm in Liberty, under Freedom, just beyond Hope.

3Gunnah: Plan on it, the only reason I'm not a member already is the GCA was a quicker and cheaper way to show club affiliation. Got a woodlot to learn to shoot it right now, but for a range, Capital City will be where I go

Just don't be embarrassed everyone there will be more than happy to help with anything that you may need. The boys in Hampden or at Capital city would be great to shoot with. I am a member of both clubs and if you shoot me a PM I can give you a little bit more information. Always great to go to the range it never fails they get to try a new gun almost everytime you go.
