Also are we to assume that any carbine/rifle/whatever issued in that invasion had no life whatsoever after that invasion? Since the guy doesn't state "original as issued to a Patton troop" what is it that makes this a non-Patton gun (oops, maybe Patton's guys didn't do Italy?)?
If the seller mentions that the carbine was issued to Patton's troops for the invasion of Italy, he should have a much much greater burden of proof than just the barrel date. The fact that we all can't prove that it wasn't issued to Patton's troops is irrelevent. It is his claim, so it's up to him to prove the carbine has some/any connection to Patton's troops invading Italy.

Still don't see where the Patton connection would command a premium as it was not issued to patton. Just a soldier in his command.

That is the whole joke....The seller thought it commanded a premium. The buy it now price was set at $1,200. Twice what it was worth.

But it wouldn't be a joke to someone who actually bought the carbine thinking it had some sort of verifiable history, but instead got taken by some colorful but meaningless and arguably unethical advertising language.

Buyer beware.

Ahhh, it went away. I was looking soooo forward to someone's latest BS story about the latest single M1 that won WW2 single handed. Okay, the first link didn't work, but the above one did. I feel privileged to see this important piece of history.
