Often wondered if they were made for 'extra' stocks made by Sprague&Carleton's metal supplier, but no proof.
Currently some listed on Ebay, marked SC on the right edge, but no mention of maker. Most of the time being described as NOS. The ones I've handled were all T3 and milled.

Marked in the exact same area that the SW plate are.

Sorry couldn't help

Gap,
I posted this on The Carbine Collectors Club Forum.... looking for some help.
Link: http://www.uscarbinecal30.com/forum/...965.html#20965

I've also done the same on the Milsurps M1/M2 Carbine forum:

Hopefully we'll find some help..... so I'm not up all night worried about it.

Bill Ricca is the guy to ask, but I don't think the answer to your question is actually known to anybody who is still alive.
