When a person is banned from posting here are they also banned from purchases?

Good question. I don't think so.

Do you really want to sell to a banned member? Guess if you get their money you are good to go. Or not.

Are you talking about purchases from CMP itself?
Or from other members on the forum?

Generally no to the first question...forum membership is not tied to CMP eligibility. Though in rare cases, the answer could be yes, but that would require other aggravating circumstances that extend beyond, but may include forum activity...and would be done at a much higher level in CMP.

As to second question, in theory, yes since they can no longer post or PM. But being banned doesn't automatically mean they can't purchase if they have a means to communicate with an existing member.

I was thinking CMP, but thanks for the clear, complete and quick response Big Red.

I have seen recently that a banned person was posting to threads here. How long does the ban last? When does the tag disappear from under their name?

Once you are banned the tag will be applied to your username and that shows on all your posts, regardless of when you posted.

Good morning.
The forum software does not distinguish between someone given a temporary suspension versus a permanent one (a no-kidding ban).
So, while a temp suspension is in effect, "banned" will display under the username, even though it's misleading and not an outright ban. Temp suspensions can range from a few days, to weeks, to months.
Once the temp suspension is up, the member can resume posting and the "banned" tag is removed.

Those permanently banned will retain the "banned" tag under their username on posts they made prior to be being banned, and for the most part those posts will remain..unless they were banned as spammers. Using that utility not only bans the user, it also removes every post they ever made...a special kind of forum perdition.

Hope that answers the question...
Rob
