Default vehicle mounted M1 Leather case??

Does anyone know about these??

It is heavy leather and has steel mounting brackets

case fully incloses rifle. are these valuable??

It’s like any other militaria. Condition is always important to me. Things like date markings, type, new old stock, color can all affect value. Post some pictures and people will comment!!

I would call it in good shape no dirt rot, but stained a few places

useable condition

I think the prices are coming down for them as the market is flooded with very well made reproduction ones now. Years ago, you had to get an original one to mount on your jeep or dodge, now, I have seen very well made ones for $49. I have 4 reproduction ones on my vehicles. But, as T38Carbine said, condition is everything!

The military (all branches) have always been very innovative in recycling old equipment. The original leather rifle sheaths used in Jeeps were most likely designed for use on horses.

My grandfather had half of a model 1885 saddlebag which he got during World War I from an army truck, where it had been attached to the outside of the door and used to carry things. He also had a photo of the truck with the saddle bag on it.

It may be a case for the BAR rather than the M1.
