Default What to do with this Remington 1903

As stated in my original post, I picked up this "parts rifle" at the gun show. It's a Remington 1903 that was drilled and tapped, with a minty 8-44 4groove RA barrel. The only part missing from the action was an extractor that I already ordered.

I was kicking around the idea of turning it into a sniper type of rifle. As far as the snipers go, I prefer the 03A4's over the USMC 1903, but I don't know what my options are for mounting the 2.5x scope without the A3 dovetail. (Or if that would be some form of bastardization)

Since I'm set to receive a sporterized Springfield 1903 (sn 1,03X,XXX) down the road, I don't feel overly compelled to restore this one to original 1903 configuration. With my SC 03A3 and future SA 1903, I think the A4 project would be a nice way to round out my new collection.

My other thought would be if I could find a Remington A3 receiver that someone would be interested in trading me for my drilled and tapped 1903 receiver for, but I don't know what kind of market there is for that sort of deal.

Making that into any form of sniper will, as you put it, will be a bastardization because, as you likely know, that's not the correct receiver for an 03A4 or a USMC sniper rig. It's kind of crazy that the rear receiver bridge is drilled but the front isn't. If it was me, I'd think about building it up into another sporter.

One option for ending up with an M'03-A4 would be to trade your receiver for a nice Remington M'03-A3 drill rifle receiver. You should be able to find someone willing to trade even without too much difficulty. And your 8-44 barrel would fit right in it.

Good Luck!

lol I have a drilled and tapped 1918 RI with an 8/44 SA barrel. Threw an old 2-7 TV view (tv bell allows me to keep the irons for back up) Redfield on it, bedded the stock and use it as an all purpose field/target/elk gun. 1" Groups all day long from a bench @ 100.

There is a Redfield A4-ish mount on ebay that claims to fit the 1903 rifle (not a3) that might work well for you. It will require additional drilling/tapping though. I will send you a PM with the auction number.
