For a Bavarian the NPM is a fair price in today's market. I don't think you'd find one with early features much cheaper (or you'd have to look a while trying). The Germans took good care of those rifles. The rack grades were generally very nice. My rack grade Inland has many original parts, a nice bore, and is a good shooter though I shoot other favorites more regularly.
That said, as TS mentions above there are plenty of nice shooter carbines that can be had for a bit less.

NPM is what I would get. I have one with the Marlin barrel and it shoots way better than I can. Mine seams to like the Lake City ammo the best. More accurate in my carbine.
