Default OD M1923 sling?

Anybody know these slings history? I have some information already..just wondering if anyone has one, and would they be acceptable on early 1942 RA M1903's?

I think you can find info over on Jouster. IIRC it is where I found most of my answers for the sling. Do you have good instructions on how to set it up correctly on your gun?

As for correctness on an Early 42 RA M1903, it would be absolutely correct if it is a Lend-Lease rifle as it's been reported that they shipped to England with M1923 slings.

Great! John Beard is very helpful. I have eleven slings in the light color and the deep OD green. Can't tell you when either were used in service but they all look good on my M1 Garands.

Best regards

I don't have color and contractor info on the M1923 slings.

Technically both are OD, the 'tan' is OD shade #3, while the dark green is OD shade #7. Really it is hard to say when any particular item would have begun to show up, but OD #7 gear is seen with dates from 42 onward, but you see the lighter stuff dated in 44 and 45 too. Honestly the best answer is always that the correct sling is any type that could have been issued to the person carrying the weapon. So an M1907, M1923 or M1 web sling could all be "correct for an early 42 RA 1903 in US or Allied use. Not a definitive answer I know, but the most realistic given the nature of a war that saw nearly twenty million Americans mobilized in a four year period.
