White out. I carry a small bottle in my range bag for touch ups if needed and it wipes off with oil if I want to remove it.

I use heat gun or hair dryer and white crayon,
Heat up the metal surface (not too hot), melt the crayon into the grooves, wipe off excess, buff off the haze with a napkin.

I use a paint pen. After the paint dries I lightly wipe with acetone and the paint remains in the lettering if wiped lighly enough. I have some sights done this way years ago and it has held up well.

I just finished marking my M1 and M1A sights using this same method. Worked out very well. Eddie
