What's your opinion, guys, does it look like the barrel had been welded to this receiver? The picture showing the front of the receiver appears to have either rust residue or molten metal, in my opinion.

If this had been a drill receiver I would think there would be evidence of the weld being cut. I wonder if this front receiver ring has been built up using weld metal maybe for some reason. It sure looks unusual compared to other receivers.

That's chrome plating, could be original. SA saved a number of early receivers by chrome plating the receiver face

Rust maybe, welded no. It looks like a little friction rubbed off the park finish to me.

Doesn’t look welded and it’s not chrome plating, just finish rubbed off from the op rod. Chromed faced receivers were very common though, especially in the 2-4K ser# range. The residue that can be seen around the top of receiver ring is likely old dried grease it can also be seen between the receiver legs. I don’t think there is anything there that won’t clean up.

Not like any receiver I have ever seen. Usually they are flat faced. This one looks like it has had a ring placed there and filled in with something. Maybe they found a new use for JB Weld!

It is certainly not weld. Welding goes into the metal not on it. It looks like crud, but it also doesn't look like a flat face of the receiver.

I had a WRA M1 rifle, back in the day, that was not only chrome plated, but also had a copper shim between the receiver and barrel. The head space was in spec. The shim had a little tab on it that showed at 2:00 o'clock as seen from the front. Depot job???
