Default CMP National Match Stock

Two questions, does anyone remember when the CMP sold these NM unfinished stock sets? They have the routing already done for glass bedding.

The other question is does anyone know who made these stocks? Thanks for any info you may have.

I think the last time they were listed in the estore was about ten years ago....
M1 National Match Garand Stock
SET - NEW MANUFACTURE Part Commercial $94.95

I believe the North Store was selling them still for about the same price, a few years ago.

They were Boyd's products, at least the one I got was.

This does NOT mean there weren't others...

If you actually have one of the stocks is there any chance you could post some pics of the routed areas?

The routing on those stocks was a joke!

Can you elaborate on your comment? It looks adequate to me but I've never bedded a stock before.

The cuts are likely “adequate” for bedding, but paying a premium for a quote “NM” stock I would expect more. The cuts are rough, some are crooked, mis-aligned and un-even. Also, it only takes a minute to route the entire horseshoe of the stock. The two small cuts present on the CMP stocks is just a sign of the overall effort put forth in routing that stock.

Will it work? Sure, it will hold epoxy.

I agree . . . the routing was a joke!

In addition, my NM stock has NO routing on the vertical surfaces surrounding the magazine well. One would need to provide routing here to correctly bed the action, plus . . .
Finish the routing at the “horseshoe”.

I’ve not used my NM stock . . .it’s still in the box.

I can provide ALL the necessary routing on a “standard” stock should I need to. (And do a MUCH BETTER job to boot!)
