Default How much ammo?

how much ammo would I need to take to a service rifle match? I have never done it, but a local club has Garand matches, and service rifle matches each month. Seems like it would be a good time. I would like to take my service grade Garand and my 03-A3.

Smile How Much Ammo

There are 2 different courses of fire.

35 Round match including 5 sighters
55 Round Match including 5 sighters.

Double # of rounds if you wish to fire course 2 times. Quite often the guys will fire twice thru course. With the ever increasing cost of ammo. Many Clubs are scaling back and firing the short course. My Club Started firing short course the start of the 2009 season. Worked out well.

When you find a match to fire. Tell the Match Director you are a New Shooter. Some Clubs have 1 on 1 coaches available. Could be a big help to you.

Thanks! will do. I have been shooting all my life, but I have never shot in a garand or service rifle match before. I have done some various pistol matches though.

NRA Highpower (you did say "service rifle") matches have two normal courses of fire. The National Match Course is 50 rounds plus 8 sighters. The Regional Course is 80 rounds plus 8 sighters.

10 or 20 offhand + 2 sighters
10 or 20 rapid seated + 2 sighters
10 or 20 rapid prone + 2 sighters
20 prone slowfire + 2 sighters
