Default "A" rebuild mark

From what I read here the A rebuild mark was applied at the USMC Supply Depot. Albany, Ga. Were these 1911a1 pistols marine corps pistols or did they overhaul for other agencies? Just wondering.

C’mon Tom, we always did “more with less” lol. I would assume only for the Corps. With the consolidation of assets nowadays, it’s definitely different now. Jeff

No one knows yet. Unfortunately those documents won't be available at the archives for a while.

Going back though to the Korean war and before, there were times that the Army rebuilt stuff for the Marines, and the Marines rebuilt stuff for the Navy.

So while I would like to assume that Albany rebuilt them for the Marines, there is certainly a chance they rebuilt for the other branches.

There was constantly stuff going back and forth between the branches when there was a need. That was one thing I have realized going to the Archives.
