Default My South Store 1903.

This is the 1903 that I picked up last Thursday. It's a 900,000 Springfield with the original barrel that gauges 1/1. I should have taken a "before" photo. I stripped the stock using a chemical stripper, steamed out the dents, hit it with some special walnut Minwax stain, and used one coat of BLO. The stock has the grasping grooves, but no cartouches. I always do a complete detail strip of any rifle that I buy. This one had a cracked sear. I also replaced the hand guard with one that matched better. The bolt was electro-penciled to another serial number, and I replaced it with a Remington bolt. It was on the shelf at CMP without a buttplate, and CMP added a 1903 buttplate that was checkered, but I think a smooth one is the correct one.
Other than the sear, bolt body and buttplate, I think it's pretty much correct.
Going to the range tomorrow morning. Should be a great shooter.

Nice, congrats on a nice rifle!!!
Interesting, the rifle was graded two days before you bought it.

Too bad wasn’t inspected by JB as he might provide his notes. He did say on another thread they have been busy grading rifles!!

All the rifles were graded by the condition of the bore and the barrel reading. They had some very nice 1903's there all for the same price. I seriously doubt Mr. Beard would let a 1903 on the sales floor without a butt plate. What a great resource he is!

How many do they have? I don't know if I can make it to one of the stores, but I'd hate to go and find none there.

How much are they going for?
