Default Looks like no C&R FFL's for CMP 1911's

Based on the email received today from CMP outlining the purchase rules for 1911's, if and when the 1911's are received C&R FFL's will not be accepted for sales.

" 6) a signed copy of the 01 Federal Firearms License in which the 1911 will be transferred"

I wonder why not as the 1911 is clearly a C&R firearm. I know some dealers will refuse a C&R but I would have thought CMP would honor a C&R FFL.

Ahhh, I thought C&R only applied too weapons designed before 1899 or some such?

No. C&R weapons must have been manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date and basically be as issued without certain modifications. You are thinking of antique firearms which must have been manufactured in or before 1898.

CMP brought the horse back to life when they opened the "barn door" today. They sent an email regarding the rules that they are working on in anticipation of the Army hopefully releasing the 1911's sometime in the future.
They also explain the type of system they will use for orders. Not looking to re hash all the old stuff, only mentioning the C&R FFL not being accepted.

They didnít open any door. They started to get a huge wave of calls again about the 1911ís, so in order to try and get the latestest they sent an email out.

The C&R thing was bashed out in that threat that I posted a link for. C&R cannot be verified like a FFL01.

... An FFL should not use this error message as reason to deny dealing with a Type 03 licensee.

Obviously the CMP isnít a FFL as such but still, a simple call to the ATF can verify a C&R. They just donít want to fool with it. I hate it but empathize.

The "Thread" you posted is 66 pages long, I really was not interested in reading through all the BS to find what was said about the C&R's. I can understand the problem of not being able to easily verify. Case closed.

If you had to make a couple phone calls, no big deal, but youíre talking thousands of phone calls to verify a C&R. I donít blame them, and would have probably done the same.
