Thanks for the information.

I got an AFPG at the Western Games last year.

I was interested in a similar one again in 308.

Did you pick up one the M1A / M14 kits?

Yes, a TRW kit. Nice looking wood, especially being a former Marine. I'm not sure if it's varnish, shellac, or something else, but I'd imagine an expert will be around shortly to chime in. Strangely, the butt plate assembly was sealed together and there were 4 extra butt plate screws inside the cleaning gear compartment, left to rattle around.

The other TRW kit had a stock with a similar finish, minus sticker, but some damage on the bottom. My guess would be sling keeper impact damage.

Very interesting! Love that sticker!!
How were the metal parts? Serviceable I am guessing, but what would you rate the overall condition as?
Thanks!

Everything seems serviceable, Average finish in the 70-75% area with what looks like normal wear along edges and contact points.

The buttplate might need to be swapped out. I'll have to see if I can get the glue off without going through the original finish. My thought was just a wire wheel on the dremel to clean the glue off, but would that go through the factory finish easily?

That looks nice to me. I like the distressed look. I know others want everything clean, and perfect, and for a 2K rifle I see their point! I am less picky I guess.
I would try soaking the entire buttplate in mineral spirits to see if that does anything to the composition of the glue. I know it won't hurt the finish, as I have soaked cosmoline-covered parts in it for hours at a time. Works wonders.
What receiver did you choose to go with?
