I have a United Shoe Underwood that for sure spent some time in Israel, or somebody went to a lot of trouble to duplicate the placement of the serial number on the left cheek of the stock. I took the gun on a 3-day right-to-return and almost sent it back. I don't think it had ever been cleaned and the stock was full of sand. Definitely desert or beach tracks. I decided to shoot it and to my amazement, it turned out to be the most accurate gun I have at short target ranges over open sights. I can't, but my crack-shot neighbor can practically put three rounds in the same hole and it doesn't seem to matter what you feed it in terms of commercial or good reloads of varying bullet-weights. The gun bears no import mark whatever...anywhere on it save the stamping of the SN on the stock.

I like cats too!

Take a 1969 Corvette, put a funky paint job and wheels on it, crushed velvet interior and a Chevy 305 under the hood and it's still a 1969 Corvette.

That Carbine, or chrome plated Rockola, is USGI. Period. Is it in the same condition as when one of our boys carried it 70 years ago? No, but it's still USGI. An import mark, while it may not be desirable for some, doesn't change anything. A commercial organization bought it, imported it, stamped it, and sold it.

Yeah! I got one of those (nickel, not chrome), but no import mark.
