It has the inspectors initials, FJA on left side. It has "P" proof mark below the mag release. It has what appears to be a 3 on the left side forward trigger guard. Also has marks on right side forward and rear of trigger guard but the strikes are light so I cant see them in the pictures, will have to take a better look tonight, but they are single letters or numbers. Any help is appreciated!

Try putting a coat of oil on the frame and then, wipe it off. Then post a couple of pics. We are all interested in the history we will collectively uncover as we go.

Augusta I think was closed in the mid 50's.

It's not common that the Army used single letter Armory rebuild codes. My hunch is it is for Albany.

But I don't know that. I should have a report back on the first one within a couple weeks and it should give us a pretty good indicator of what it was.

I just picked up my 1911 from my FFL yesterday. It's stamped with "A 11 81" above the trigger guard on the right side, and "81" on the trigger guard itself. It's a 1944 Colt frame with a US&S slide.

If anyone has one of these pistols, give me the full serial number and I will have it traced and see if we can get a answer of what the "A" stands for.

A 2 83 Remington Rand S#2419455 parkarized, top right side of trigger guard stamped A, lower right maybe a H (hard to make out
left top side trigger guard stamped 4, looks like a letter P stamped below right of mag release. Top of barrel 45 AUTO, underneath 45AUTO 7791193.
