Default "9" trigger housing: NPM?

I've been wondering about this one for a long time and the recent thread on springtubes motivated me to pull my Winchester out of the safe.

The only mark on this trigger housing is a 9. NPM?

Also some odd tool marks around the mag release.

The same marks are on the stock by the stamp:

Can't address the "tool marks" I have no idea. Look for the N on the opposite side of the trigger housing. One there?

No other markings at all Gunny, it's the darnedest thing. Been trying to figure this one out for a year now! The only place I haven't checked is under the trigger assembly, but I've never heard of one being marked in there...?

I think Std. Prods. also used a number with an S. I think both were on the right side though. I'd go with N.P.M.
Do we know which type it is?

Many variations out there. I have a Standard Products housing marked S with no number.

Yours looks like it has the NPM style 9.

Maybe BQ97 will weigh in. He knows some pretty obscure carbine stuff.... Ilke SlyOne and others, I'm leaning toward NPM.

Housing is type 1 or 2 (used to be a sticky around here, no longer )

SP started off at type 3 (square not bevelled lugs).

I think NPM too. 9 is common number with that. Maybe N was light and got blasted off during your housing's refinishing.

NPM only used the type 1 (very early for about the first 5K made) and then the type 2 housing to the end of production.

Thanks guys, that's pretty much what I was thinking--probably just missed out on its N. With the production rush you'd think there was a war on or something!
