Default Carbine Stock Marking question

A friend inherited a carbine with what appears to be MA stamped inside the stock next to the magazine well. Does anyone know what this marking might stand for, if anything?
Thanks,
Hugh

Are you sure it is "MA"?? If could possibly be "MR" then is Mount Rainer Arsenal in Ft Lewis, WA. Other possibility is inspectors initials.

Pictures would help... try indirect lighting to bring out the best definition of the stamp.

Look in the sling for any letters stamped in there. The MA could be for almost anything if inside the stock.

Thanks for the answers. My buddy is a geographic bachelor right now and does not have access to the rifle. He is set to retire from the Army next month so the pictures will have to wait until then. Kidding around with me he said they stood for Murphy, Audie.
