I did get mentioned by BC once as one of those "hyper-sensitive" individuals because I brought up his incorrect use of "M1903 Modified". LOL!!

Other than the barrel, the rifle doesn't appear to exhibit characteristics of USMC issuance. So the barrel is probably a Bubba-installed replacement, and that's reasonably consistent with the 2-44 barrel date.

Thanks again for the barrel date and pictures.

Default USMC Sedgerly

Here is a interesting one. I got a 1903 Springfield drill rifle from the CMP 10 0r 15 years ago with a 11-41 Sedgerly barrel, a Hatcher hole, a pin prick either in front of or behind the 900xxx Ser# and a stippled(spell?) buttplate. I'm told these are all USMC characteristics. Some years later I took it off the wall and discovered 3 plugged holes on the left side of the receiver(hard to see as it had been reparked) for the Warner-Swazey scope. The rifle started off as a sniper and at some point reverted to a regular 03 and wound up in the Corp. I found a correctly dated 03 1918 barrel and Warner Swazey scope and restored it to its original configuration.

Gamblelane that is interesting. That is the second one I know of now. I used to own one as well. It was plugged, a 352xxx serial range that was a m1908 Warner Swasey at one time. Rebuilt with a 1941 Sedgley barrel if I remember right, and it had a SRS hit.
